How to Repair an AVI File
The AVI video file format is used extensively for playing video online and on PCs. The file structure of an AVI file can be easily damaged during playback. Repairing a damaged AVI file can be done without having advanced computer skills thanks to the many free, automated AVI repair programs available for use on a PC. The basic procedure for repairing an AVI file is the same for all AVI repair programs, although there will be slight differences between different programs that must be taken into account. A repaired AVI file will play video as efficiently and properly as if it had never been damaged.

Download and install an AVI repair program to the computer's desktop. One such program is DivFix++, which has a simple interface that makes it easy to understand. Restart the PC after the installation has finished.

Run the AVI repair program. Click the "Keep Original File" and "Cut out Bad Parts" check boxes.

Drag the AVI file into the left side of the program's main screen. Wait for the AVI file's name to appear in the column at the left side of the program's main screen.

Click on the "Fix" button at the bottom of the program's main screen. Wait as the AVI repair program repairs the AVI file. Quit the AVI repair program when the AVI file has been repaired.

Tips & Warnings
Don't run graphic- and video-intensive programs while the AVI repair program is running as this can cause interference with the repair process and corrupt the file further.
A copy-protected AVI file cannot be repaired.
