How to Display Wedding Veils

Many brides wish to preserve items from their wedding day by using them in an attractive display instead of allowing them to deteriorate in a drawer or closet. One way to display wedding veils is to create a shadow-box wall hanging. A shadow-box display ensures the veil remains dust-free, clean and preserved, while providing a permanent and unique keepsake to show family and friends.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a shadow-box frame from a frame, hobby, or craft store. These frames are available in standard frame sizes as well as custom sizes; the frame you choose should be big enough to house the headpiece and a large piece of the veil.

    • 2

Disassemble the frame. Using the spray adhesive, attach a background paper or colored matting to the inside back of the shadow box. Allow to dry.

    • 3

Determine the placement of the veil. You may wish to display the headpiece at the top of the frame, then allow the netting to cascade down. Another option is to drape the veil across the matting, then layer the headpiece on top. Do not attach anything until you have decided on the exact placement of items.

    • 4

Attach the headpiece and spray adhesive to attach the netting to the matting, using hot glue. Cut away any netting that drapes over the backing. Allow the piece to dry completely.

    • 5

Clean both sides of the glass with glass cleaner. Dust the interior and exterior of the frame.

    • 6

Reassemble the frame, paying close attention to the way the veil moves within the frame. Use more adhesive to solidify, if necessary.

    • 7

Hang the shadow box in your desired location using the attached hook on the back of the frame.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hang the shadow box in a well-lit area, but not in direct sunlight as the sun can discolor fabric.

  • For more impact, add other wedding memorabilia to the shadow box. Flat items like wedding invitations, programs, or other fabrics could be used as part of the background. More bulky items, like preserved flowers, can be layered on top of the veil.

  • When using spray adhesive, read all instructions and manufacturer's information. Some adhesives may not be intended for fabric. Always use spray adhesives in well-ventilated areas.
