How to Save Gas Using the Clutch
The higher gas prices rise, the more important it becomes to cut gas costs wherever you can. One way to do this is by driving a vehicle with a manual transmission. If you are good with the clutch, you are actually saving more fuel and energy than if it had an automatic transmission.

Watch the RPM (revolutions per minutes) level while you are driving. It is usually located next to the speedometer. The lower the RPM level, the less gas you are using. Consult your vehicle's owner manual in regards to the RPMs. Different vehicles have different RPMs that the company suggests for increased fuel savings.

Push the clutch down with your left foot immediately when you need to change gears, and accelerate your vehicle. Once the speed reaches the point where it needs to be, shift again and release the clutch. The quickness of these decisions is where you can get the advantage over a vehicle run by automatic transmission.

Release the clutch and drive in neutral to allow the vehicle to coast whenever possible. Don't attempt this in difficult traffic. Country roads and low-traffic highways are the best scenarios to use this technique.

Tips & Warnings
If you've never used a clutch before, there's a good chance you'll actually have the reverse effect and use up more gas. If you're unsure of your own skill, have someone with a lot of experience driving a manual transmission vehicle come along with you to help.
Monitor the amount of gas you use over specific amounts of mileage and see if you are making a difference.
