Instructions

  1. The Class

    • 1

Attend every class. Nothing could be simpler or more basic. If you don't attend class, you make your task of passing the class that much more difficult. And to succeed, you are going to have to get more from the class than just a passing grade.

    • 2

Go to all field trips, labs and outings, whether they are required or not. In most cases, all activity outside the classroom, like a lab or field trip, will be required. Don't skip any of these activities. This is what science class is all about.

    • 3

Take good notes during the class lecture. It is much easier to learn the subject matter in class than it is from the textbook at home.

    • 4

Do the required outside reading and research. At the basic college level there may be more emphasis on class participation and presence at a field trip or lab, so you may not have a large load of outside reading or research. This is good in a way, so make the most of your class time.

    • 5

Talk to the instructor or professor. They are there to help you learn and chances are they have a lot of valuable information that can be passed your way. So ask questions whenever the need arises. Also, get to know your classmates and feel free to discuss the subject matter and the progress of the class, your peers. Just don't let the classmates take the place of the instructor.

Tips & Warnings

  • Taking a science class is not a vow of silence. Science is a lively, challenging and practical subject. Social interaction is also part of the process.

  • Follow all safety instructions when in the lab or the field.

  • Science is not for everyone. If the class seems difficult, stick with it. You might come through the experience in good shape, but if the subject matter is way over your head, there are probably other things you are better suited to be doing.
