How to Pick Bridesmaid Dresses That Please Everyone
It's your wedding, and your bridesmaids must let you choose their dresses. But you want to make them happy about your choice, which can be difficult, especially when they are all in different shapes, with different tastes. However, there are tips that can help you please everyone while keeping them looking like a team.
Instructions
-
One Color, Multiple Styles
-
1
Tell your bridesmaids they are all going to wear your wedding's theme color like traditional bridesmaids if none of them has a problem with that color.
-
2
Take all the bridesmaids to your chosen bridal shop or tailor.
-
-
3
Let each bridesmaid choose her preferred style as long as the color is exactly the same on all the dresses (nothing darker, lighter or brighter), which should all be floor length for a uniform look at the bottom while showing individuality on the top.
One Style, Multiple Colors
-
4
Ask only your maid of honor to wear your wedding's theme color if one of the bridesmaids dislikes the color. In case even your maid of honor doesn't like it, let her wear her favorite color, but add a flower pin and sash in the theme color.
-
5
Gather your bridesmaids to look through pictures of dresses in fashion magazines. Let them vote for a style. If a consensus cannot be reached, you might want to decide on off-the-shoulder short sleeves and an A-line skirt, which will have a slimming visual effect that pleases almost all women.
-
6
Look for the selected style in bridal shops, or have it custom made. Let each bridesmaid choose her dress color, but all the dresses should be in distinctively different colors, and any two can't look indistinguishable. Or you can have the maid of honor be the only one in a different color and the other bridesmaids in the same hue.
Two-toned Design
-
7
Buy wide ribbon in your wedding's theme color if some or most of your bridesmaids are weight conscious and prefer wearing dark colors unless your theme color is a dark one.
-
8
Let your bridesmaids get black or navy strapless dresses in the same length.
-
9
Have a tailor use the ribbon you've bought to add straps and trims in your wedding theme color to the black or navy dresses. Or you can do it yourself if you know how to sew.

A few tips: Don't start looking at dresses until 4-6 months before the wedding. There is no need to order them that far out unless it's an exclusive designer gown. It just hangs in their closet for months prior to the wedding, and they're out the money in the meantime. Ask them how much they're prepared to spend, and come up with some styles in that price range. Don't just pick and style and expect them to cough up the cash "just because it's my wedding." Remember that they have to wear what you pick out. They're your friends...never lose sight of this fact. What you think they can afford might not be. Save money wherever you can. Remember that shoes dyed to match a bridesmaids' dress can only be worn WITH that dress...thus, a moneywaster. Nobody really looks at their feet, so consider a pair of dressy sandals in a metallic color instead. Odds are that they've already got a pair o...
