How to Replace a Tahoe Power Steering Pump

The Chevy Tahoe is a full-size SUV that needs a power steering pump that work installed on the engine. Without the power steering pump, you would have a hard time turning your Tahoe. The power steering pump is mounted to the engine on the driver side with a black plastic tank connected to the the pump. The cap on the top of the black plastic tank reads "Power Steering Fluid." To remove and install the power steering pump, you are going to need a couple of common tools and a drain container.

Things You'll Need

• Ratchet set
• Clamp
• Drain pan
• Pliers
• New pump

Instructions

1. Remove the radiator fan, drive belt and power steering pulley, using the ratchet set to remove the securing bolts to gain access to the power steering pump.

2. Place the drain pan under the power steering pump to catch the power steering fluid. Clamp off the filler hose connected to it.

3. Remove the hoses connected to the power steering pump, using the ratchet set and pliers. Remove the two bolts from the front and the two bolts from the rear that secure the pump to the engine. Remove the power steering pump from the Chevy Tahoe's engine.

4. Bolt the Chevy Tahoe's new power steering pump to its mount, using the ratchet set. Tighten the bolts. Reconnect the hoses to the pump, then install the pulley. Replace the upper radiator fan casing and the drive belt.

5. Fill the Chevy Tahoe's new power steering pump with power steering fluid according to the owner's manual.
