How to Add Subtitles to Nero

Nero offers a popular DVD playback program that includes all the standard features, including subtitle display. However, subtitles are not turned on by default in most cases. The software offers multiple methods for adding subtitles to the Nero program window. Turning them on benefits viewers of a DVD who otherwise do not understand what characters are saying. The subtitle feature may also help the hearing impaired interpret fast dialog or accents they are not used to. Nero is an easy program and almost anyone can add subtitles on the fly.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the Nero program. When watching a DVD, Nero may automatically run when you insert the DVD into the computer. Alternately, choose the Nero program from the Windows "Start" menu on the left side of the taskbar, located at the bottom of the Windows desktop.

    • 2

Start the DVD playback. Nero will usually start playing the DVD automatically when you launch the program. If you open the program before the DVD's insertion into the computer, Nero will begin playback automatically once it recognizes the DVD. If the program does not play automatically, press the "Play" button on the right side of the Nero transport control window.

    • 3

Navigate to the movie playback or other video content on the DVD. Click on the DVD menu until the desired video playback begins.

    • 4

Right-click the video playback directly. A context menu will appear featuring many playback customizations. Hover the mouse cursor over the "Change Subtitles" sub-menu item. Select any of the available subtitles from the sub-menu to add the subtitle to the Nero playback window.

    • 5

Hold down the "Control" button on the computer keyboard and simultaneously press the letter "U" button to add the subtitle without using the menu. Repeat the process to remove the subtitle.

Tips & Warnings

  • Subtitles can only be added if subtitle data is available in the video source. If no subtitles are listed in the "Change Subtitles" sub-menu, you cannot add subtitles.
