Check to see if you can print a test page from your printer. If you can print a test page successfully but the jobs you send from your computer fail to print, you'll know that there's a communication problem between the computer and the printer. Holding in the "Power" button will cause a test page to start printing. If your test page prints, look to the cable on the printer, or the printer driver, as the possible cause of your printing problem.

Log on to the Internet and go to the HP website. Go to the "Drivers" section and download the most current driver for your printer. Run the installation program to install the new driver, then try your print job again.

Open the top cover of your printer and wait for the print cartridges to move to the center. Flip up the plastic cover on the print cartridge, then tilt the cartridge forward and lift it free of the printer. Look at the bottom of the print cartridge carrier for any accumulated ink or other debris. Dip a cotton swab in some isopropyl alcohol and swab away any dirt and debris.

Pull the paper out of the tray and shine a flashlight toward the bottom of the printer. Locate the rollers that pick up the paper and feed it into the printer. Feel those rollers to see if they have a rough or a smooth texture. The rollers should be rough: If they're worn smooth, they won't be able to pick up the paper; that can cause repeated paper jams. Turn the printer over and locate the rollers, then carefully pull them off of the rod. Slide the new rollers on to the rod and snap them into place.
