How to Connect Noncomputer Speakers to a Computer

Usually, the speakers built in to your computer or the small speakers you place around your monitor do not provide top-notch audio or possess the ability to project loud content without becoming distorted. If you want to watch movies or play video games over your computer, connect your computer system to non-computer speakers.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the 3.5 mm male end of the cable into speaker jack on your computer. If you are using a laptop, plug this into the headphones jack of your computer. You can find this cable at most electronics stores.

    • 2

Connect the red-and-white male RCA end of the cable into the red and white "Audio In" ports on the back of the stereo system. If there are multiple ports, take note of the name or number of the port you connect the cable to.

    • 3

Power on the audio receiver and set the playback to the "Audio In" port you have the RCA cables connected to.

    • 4

Play audio over your computer to test the connection to the speakers.
