Instructions

    • 1

Spread the knotted chain on a non-porous surface, such as a cutting board or kitchen counter. Be sure to wipe the surface clean before laying the chain down so it doesn't become wet or dirty.

    • 2

Untangle the chain as much as possible, moving the rest of the necklace away from the knot. Carefully pour a drop of oil on the knot and allow it to seep through the links for a moment.

    • 3

Bend two safety pins open, or use two toothpicks or straight pins instead. Insert the ends of each safety pin into opposite sides of the knot and gently pull the knot loose. The chain should become untangled immediately.

    • 4

Wash the chain with warm water and a mild soap. Dry the chain thoroughly with a towel, and then use a hair dryer to dry any remaining drops of water.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure not to work on a wooden or porous surface; the oil will stain the fabric or damage the wood.
