How to Access the Integrated Camera on a MacBook

All modern MacBook computers come with an integrated camera called the iSight camera. You can use this camera to take photos of yourself or your family, or use it as a web camera to video chat with people all over the world. To access the integrated camera on a MacBook, all you have to do is open the right program and you will be using the iSight camera right away.

  1. Photo Booth

      Open Photo Booth on your MacBook. It is in your Dock or your hard drive/Applications folder. Double-click on it to open it.

      Press the red button with a camera icon on it.

      Wait 3 seconds. The iSight camera will snap a picture.

    iChat

      Open iChat on your MacBook. iChat is in your Dock or your hard drive/Applications folder. Double-click on it to open it.

      Open the iChat "Preferences" menu in the iChat menu.

      Click on the tab with the green video camera icon. A new window will open with a video feed from your iSight web camera.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the iSight camera is on, the light next to it will be green. You can video chat with the iSight camera by pressing the video icon in the call window of an open call on Skype, Yahoo Messenger or AOL.
