How to Connect Multiple Dvr's to One Monitor

If you have a multiple DVRs (digital video recorders) set up in your home for cable or satellite programming, you can have all of the units connected to one monitor. This will allow you to watch programming from any of your DVRs on the monitor. You can connect multiple DVRs to one monitor by using an AV signal switcher. An AV (audio/video) signal switcher can be used with a coaxial cable or with RCA audio/video cables for better signal quality.

Connect one end of an RCA audio/video cable to the audio and video outputs on a DVR.

Connect the other end of the RCA audio/video cable to the corresponding audio and video inputs on the AV signal switcher. The audio output from the DVR connects to the audio input of the AV signal switcher, and the video output from the DVR connects to the video input of the switcher.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each DVR that you want to use with the monitor. AV switchers can be purchased to accept various numbers of inputs. Even inexpensive switchers can accept up to four input devices.

Connect one end of another RCA audio/video cable to the audio and video output on the AV signal switcher.

Connect the other end of the RCA audio/video cable to the corresponding audio and video inputs on the monitor (matching the audio output on the AV switcher to the audio input on the monitor and the video output on the switcher to the video input on the monitor).

Push buttons on the AV switcher can be used to select which DVR you want to watch. Some models are available with remote control to switch the signal inputs from the various DVRs.
