How to Connect a YSP Sound Projector to a Yamaha AV Receiver

Yamaha Sound Projectors (YSPs) produce multi-channel Surround Sound for home theater from a single audio component. All YSP models are equipped with several types of audio/video jacks for connecting components, including a Yamaha AV receiver to power the systems and manage other home theater equipment attached to the system. Newer Yamaha AV receivers will have a High Definition Media Interface (HDMI) jack for connecting to the sound projector. Older receivers can use component AV cables. The cables are available at electronics and audio stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the back of the Yamaha AV receiver to determine the available connections. Look for a six-sided HDMI jack with 19 holes arranged in three rows. Use an HDMI cable if the receiver has an HDMI port and continue to Step 2. Otherwise, jump to Step 3.

    • 2

Insert one end of an HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT jack on the Yamaha receiver with the wider end of the plug turned upward. Connect the other end of the cable to the HDMI IN jack on the back of the Yamaha Sound Projector. This completes the connection for an HDMI hookup.

    • 3

If the receiver does not have an HDMI connection, connect the red, green, and blue component video cables to the matching Video OUT jacks on the back of the receiver.

    • 4

Insert the plugs on the other end of the cables into the Video IN jacks on the Sound Projector.

    • 5

Attach audio cables to the Audio OUT jacks on the Yamaha receiver, using the white plug for the left channel and the red plug for the right channel.

    • 6

Connect the plugs on the other end to the Sound Projector's Audio IN jacks using the same color codes for left and right.

Tips & Warnings

  • Yamaha Sound Projectors are equipped with both HDMI and component jacks. HDMI can deliver eight channels of digital audio and high-definition video, for superior picture and sound. Although the cables cost more, the quality of the AV output and simple connection make HDMI the better choice when HDMI ports are available on a receiver.

  • Unplug the components from the electricity while connecting AV cables.
