How to Lace Leggings

Leggings mean different things to different people. In women's fashion, leggings are comfortable, skin-tight pants that pair well with long sweaters or tunic-style shirts. In history, men wore leggings over the cuffs of their pants and the tops of their shoes as part of military uniforms.

Depending on the type of legging, it may require that you lace it up to wear it properly. The military version of leggings in particular are a bit complicated to lace up. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Lacing Fashion Leggings

    • 1

Decide if you are lacing from the bottom up or the top down. Whichever end you begin from, thread one end of the lace through the top right grommet and the other end through the top left. The most basic way to lace leggings is to use the crisscross method. This is just like lacing a shoe.

    • 2

Pull the lace tight between the two grommets. Make sure the ends of the lace are even. Cross the laces and thread one each through the next holes down on both sides of the leggings. Put the end of the lace through the bottom hole, so that it comes up through the top.

    • 3

Cross the laces again and proceed to the next pair of grommets. Repeat this pattern until you reach the opposite end, then tie the laces in a simple bow.

    Lacing Military Leggings

    • 4

Lay the legging open with the interior facing up. Tie an overhand knot in one end of the lace. Thread it through the bottom grommet on the hook-side of the leggings. The knot should be on the interior.

    • 5

Thread the lace through the grommets on the opposite side of the legging. Beginning at the bottom, thread the lace through the grommet to the outside of the legging, then thread it through the next grommet up, going from the outside in. Continue threading the lace through the grommets in this over-under fashion until you reach the top of the legging.

    • 6

Slip the legging's foot strap over the toe of your boot. Pull the legging up so the strap catches at your arch. Bring the hook side and the lace side of the legging together. Hook each lace loop over a hook on the hook side. Start from the bottom, pulling the lace tight after each hook.

    • 7

Secure the lace at the top by tucking it in under the top of the legging and pulling it through the top grommet. Properly laced leggings should be uniformly tight all the way up and have a smooth appearance.
