How to See the Leading Bid in an eBay Auction

Ebay is an online marketplace dedicated to allowing users to sell items in auctions. Community members list items for sale and other community members bid on the items with the goal of winning the auction by having the highest bid at the end of the time allotted for the item's auction. When you use eBay, you might want to see the bidding history and view the leading bid before placing your own bid. When you know the bidding information for the auction listing, you can make an informed decision about placing your bid.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Internet browser and navigate to eBay's homepage. Sign in to your account.

    • 2

Use the eBay search bar located at the top of most eBay pages to search for an item. If you are unsure of the correct search terms to use, browse eBay's item categories to look for interesting items.

    • 3

Click an auction listing to open the item's information page. Locate the "Current Bid" section of the item's listing page. The amount listed on the right is the current leading bid. The time remaining in the auction also is listed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Click the number of bids next to the "Bid History" section on the item's listing page to view the bidding history for the item. On this page, you can see the number of bids currently placed, and how many eBay members have placed a bid for the item.

  • The leading bid of an item changes each time an eBay community member places a new bid for a higher amount. User eBay's "Watch This Item" feature to see when the leading bid increases.
