How to Save a Document in Powerpoint in RTF

The Rich Text Format (RTF), according to Microsoft, is "a file type used to transfer formatted text documents between applications, even those that run on different platforms, such as IBM and Macintosh." It is helpful to save PowerPoint files in the RTF format because, according to Microsoft, "presentations that you save as RTF files have smaller file sizes, look and print exactly as the original and provide security by not containing or transmitting most macro or viruses." The PowerPoint 2007 "Save As" function enables PowerPoint users to save files in the RTF format.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the presentation file you would like to convert to the RTF format in PowerPoint 2007, click on the Microsoft Office button located at the top left-hand corner, point your cursor to "Save as," and then choose "Other Formats."

    • 2

Enter a name in the "File Name" field to modify the name of the file or leave the previous file name unchanged.

    • 3

Scroll through the "Save as File" list, select "Outline/RTF," and then click on "Save." You have successfully converted your presentation file to the RFT format. Note that saving a PowerPoint file in the RTF format will not modify your original PowerPoint file.
