One of the methods is to utilize the faster internet speeds now available and create a large background image for your websites. A large image that would take up all, if not most of the screen looks more impressive than the small tiled images that many websites use to save bandwidth. A large background image is one way to make the website look more professional and polished.

Import a photo into the image editing software.

Resize the image to at least 1024 x 728 pixels.

Save the image as a JPEG file.

Upload the file to your website using an FTP client.

Set the image as your background using your web design software or the coding language you prefer (CSS, HTML, Dreamweaver, etc.).

Select a color for the background that matches the image you have picked. This will make your website look better even if the screen that is viewing it is larger than the image.

Adobe Photoshop is an extremely popular choice amongst photo editors, but for more casual web designers, Google offers a free photo editing software.
Unless the photo belongs to you, you must have permission to use an image as your background.
The image must not be excessively large. An image that is any larger than 500 kb is going to be too big even for faster connections. If this is the case, reopen the image and lower its quality slightly and retry it.
Do not blow up the image as it will lose quality and may look bad on a high resolution display.
