How to Create Stacked Bar Graphs in Excel

Excel is a proprietary spreadsheet application created by Microsoft. This program allows users to enter quantitative data and automatically create different output formats for the data. One function that Excel supports is the ability to output various graphs and charts based on the data entered. Create advanced graphs, such as stacked bar graphs, using the graphing function in Excel.

      Launch Excel and open a spreadsheet. Begin entering your data in cell A1 and continue entering data in subsequent cells in row A. For example, if you have four numbers you want to display, enter data in A1, A2, A3 and A4.

      Select the cells you want to create into a stacked bar graph. For example, select cells A1 through A4 if you have four numbers.

      Click "Insert" on the top menu and select "Chart." This will open the Chart Wizard.

      Select "Bar" from the "Chart Type" menu box. Then select "100% Stacked Bar" from the "Chart Subtype" menu. This is the third choice listed. Click the "Next" button to proceed.

      Select the "Rows" option in the "Series in" menu and click "Next."

      Add labels, including names for the chart title, the X axis and the Y axis.

      Click the "Finish" button, and the graph will be automatically generated.
