How to Engrave Crystal
Engraving crystal is a very similar process to engraving other types of glass. - Paper
- Tape
- Fine-point permanent marker
- Crystal item
- Glass engraver
- Pattern
- Damp cloths
- Safety goggles
- Face mask

Draw your design onto a piece of paper using dark ink. You can also print this design from your computer. Make sure that it will fit on your crystal item.

Tape the completed pattern in place in a way that you can see it through the crystal. If you are engraving a goblet or plate, for instance, you will simply tape the pattern on the opposite side of your work area.

Trace the pattern on the outside of the crystal using your marker and remove the paper pattern.

Wear a face mask and safety goggles to protect your nose, mouth and eyes from glass dust as you work.

Follow your glass engraving tool's directions for assembly and setup. Be sure to test the tool's speed and depth settings to find a comfortable working balance.

Trace the edges and interior of your design, wiping away the glass dust with your damp cloths as you work.
