How to Create an Expert Staff Ghost on Mario Kart Wii
"Mario Kart Wii" is the innovative racing game for the Nintendo Wii gaming console. The game includes a "Time Trial" mode, in which you attempt to beat the race time of a pre-programmed "staff ghost" racer. If you do well enough in the race, you can create (or unlock) an even faster pre-programmed "expert staff ghost." Furthermore, when you unlock expert staff ghosts, it can also unlock other elements of the game. Unlocking expert staff ghosts can be difficult, though, and it is sometimes hard to know how fast you need to be to do it.
Instructions

1
Select your desired license and number of players and choose "Time Trial."
-
2
Choose your character and kart or bike. This is especially important when trying to unlock expert staff ghosts, since you want the most compatible combination for the track you are attempting to master. A number of players on community forums agree that Princess Peach on the Mach Bike seems to be the most effective winning combination.

3
Select the course you wish to run and when prompted, select "Watch Replay" to observe the movements of the normal staff ghost. You will then get an idea of how the ghost will perform. Pay attention to any shortcuts it may take.
-
4
Select "Race this ghost" after you have finished watching the replay.
-
5
Beat the normal staff ghost's time at each track by a significant margin to unlock the expert staff ghost. For example, the normal staff ghost at the Luigi Circuit finishes in 1:29:670. You must finish with a time of 1:26:376 in order to unlock the expert staff ghost. The Moo Moo Meadows ghost finishes in 1:37:856 but you need a time of 1:34.159 to unlock the expert. For a complete list of tracks and margin-of-victory times, see the expert staff ghost thread at the GameSpot forum for "Mario Kart."

Tips & Warnings
When you have unlocked an expert staff ghost, you will see a message on the rankings screen that reads: "A fast staff ghost has appeared!" If you do not see this message, it has not unlocked and you must try again.
If you are having difficulty reaching the required times to unlock expert staff ghosts, try using the Wii remote and nunchuck setup rather than the Wii Wheel.
When you unlock expert staff ghosts, the game periodically rewards you with unlocked characters or vehicles. For instance, if you unlock one, you are rewarded with the Tiny Titan, a small kart. Unlock four and you earn Funky Kong. Unlock eight expert staff ghosts and you will unlock Baby Luigi. If you unlock all thirty-two expert staff ghosts, you will unlock your Mii in outfit B.
