How to Make Peanut Strings

Want to attract birds to your yard? Try a new twist on an old trick.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Embroidery Floss
• Sewing Needles
• Unsalted Peanuts

1. Thread a large sewing needle with colored embroidery floss.

2. Soak a bag of unsalted, unshelled peanuts in warm water for 30 minutes. This will soften the shells so they don't break while you "sew" them.

3. Poke the needle through the middle of each shell, between the nuts.

4. Be sure to leave enough floss to make a loop at the end to tie your peanut string up in a tree.

Tips & Warnings

• Peanuts attract a lot of squirrels and bugs, so you may want to hang them away from your house.

on 11/22/2005 Smear peanut butter on the string or peanuts, then sprinkle with seed. Birds love this little extra treat!!
