How to Install a 10 Base-T NIC Card
If you want to be able to connect to the Internet or add your computer to a network it first must have an appropriate network card installed. A 10 Base-T NIC (Network Interface Card), which is also known more simply as an Ethernet card, gives your computer the ability to connect to a basic Ethernet networking cable. As long as your computer has an available PCI card slot you can easily install a new 10 Base-T NIC on your own.

3
Remove the screws along the back side of the access panel or push in the release latch. Lift the access panel off the computer case and then locate the PCI card slots at the lower-left end of the motherboard.

Compare the set of notches on the bottom side of the 10 Base-T NIC to the holes on the PCI card slot. Line up the notches with the holes and insert the card into the slot. Check the edge of the card to ensure it is flush with the edge of the computer case.

Replace the side access panel and set the computer back into its original position. Plug the power cable and any other cables that you removed.

Tips & Warnings
Network interface cards can be bought from office supply stores or online electronics retailers.
Some computer models have a plastic housing unit over the card slots. Simply remove the screws holding the housing to the motherboard and then pull the housing out of the computer.
Depending on your computer model there may also be a retention arm preventing you from installing a card. Lift up the retention arm before inserting the card into the PCI card slot.
Prior to touching the 10 Base-T NIC or the card slot in your computer you need to be grounded to prevent damage from static electricity. You can easily ground yourself by touching the metal tabs on the back side of the computer case or any other metal object that is touching the floor.
