1. Update your antivirus software, which is the easiest way to protect against viruses. Open your antivirus software and in the menu bar choose the "Get Updates" option. When prompted, you can select the "Allow Automatic Updates" option to perform the task automatically.

2. Visit the Microsoft Security Center and download, install and run the Malicious Software Removal Tool. The tool searches your computer for viruses and deletes them from your system.

3. Unplug your computer from the Internet and run the antivirus software again. This will keep traces of virus from spreading to other computers via your Internet connection.

4. Once a virus is removed, you should create a restore point on your computer, in case you have to revert to this secured state. From your "Start" menu, choose the "Accessories" program folder, then "System Tools", then "System Restore." You will be given the option to create a restore point.
