How to Care for Polar Fleece
Polar fleece, which is also known as fleece or microfleece, is typically made of synthetic wool. However, fleece is much lighter than wool. This soft fabric is often used in garments such as sweaters, sweatpants, hooded jackets and blankets. Following some simple care instructions for your polar fleece garments can help ensure their longevity. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Wash your fleece garments separately from other laundry. Turn them inside out before placing them in the washing machine. Set the water on cool to lukewarm. According to The Complete Fleece Guide (see References), you should not use bleach on any fleece garment.
-
2
Air dry your polar fleece, if possible. If not, set the dryer to "tumble dry," and use the lowest heat setting. Fleece garments can become damaged by excessive heat. Avoid using any fabric softeners.

3
Avoid ironing polar fleece garments when possible. If you must iron, use the lowest heat setting. Place a press cloth between the iron and the fabric.
-
4
Store your polar fleece garments in a cotton sack, as recommended by The Complete Fleece Guide. Cotton helps keep insects away while allowing the fleece to "breathe." Don't store fleece in plastic bags for more than a month.
-
5
Repel moths by storing your fleece with a moth repellent product. One natural choice is a sachet with the scent of pennyroyal, which moths will avoid.
