1
String a series of pearl beads onto jewelry thread, leaving a small space--approximately 1 cm-- between each bead. Secure the thread with a knot on the end, and attach a necklace clasp or closure on the ends for wearing it.
-
2
Use a steel crochet hook, approximately a US size B or C, to attach your crochet thread to one end of the necklace, near the clasp. Make a slip stitch to attach, and then make one single crochet stitch on the end before any beads.

3
Make two chain stitches behind or over the first pearl bead, and then make a single crochet stitch in between the first and second beads. Continue this pattern across the necklace, and then turn and work down the other side of the necklace as well. Now every bead should have two chain stitches on each side of it and two single crochet stitches separating it from the next bead.

4
Crochet back down the necklace, making shell stitches into the chain-2 spaces across. Slip stitch into your first single crochet stitch, then work the following pattern into the chain-2 space over the first bead: single crochet, three double crochets, single crochet into the same space. Continue this pattern around, working slip stitches into every single crochet stitch between beads and shell stitch patterns into the chain-2 spaces behind the beads.
-
5
Continue the established pattern around the other side of the necklace as well. Now you will have shell stitching going around each bead, one pattern on each side.
-
6
When you reach your starting point, join your yarn with a slip stitch and cut off your working end. Weave in the loose end of yarn using an embroidery needle and wear your pearl necklace to your next party.
