Purchase a vent-free fireplace that is sized according to the dimensions of the room you want to heat. The salesperson can help you with a proper selection according to your needs. Select a mantel kit and accompanying accessories if you wish to surround your fireplace with trim.

Position the vent-free fireplace hearth against the wall where you want it to sit. Place the firebox, which may have an optional brick lining, on the hearth.

Connect the flexible gas line of the vent-free fireplace to the gas or propane connection in your wall. (If you don't have one, you'll need to hire a certified contractor who can install a gas or propane connection in your room. Tighten the fittings. Remove the protective plastic that came on the fireplace.

Attach the mantel ledgers to the wall according to the directions in your mantel kit and set the mantel on top of the ledgers. Add any trim and accessories that go with your mantel and enjoy your vent-free fireplace.
