How to Look for Night Jobs

If you are looking to pick up an extra job for spending money, or to earn an income during your off time while attending school, a night job may be the perfect opportunity for you. Night owls will find that many businesses -- including restaurants, bars, supermarkets and retail stores -- offer shifts beyond the conventional 9-to-5. Looking for a night job is similar to looking for day work.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide what kind of work you are willing to do. It is important to do something that you enjoy, especially if you spend daytime in school or at another job.

    • 2

Create or update your resume. If you have not held a job before, create a resume that lists your volunteer work or other skills that would pertain to your future job. You do not have to list jobs held more than 10 years ago or that have nothing to do with the type of work that you seek.

    • 3

Look for work in person. A lot of jobs -- including night jobs -- are not posted, because they can be easily filled. Asking businesses if they are hiring may open up opportunities that you would not find otherwise. Even companies that are not hiring may be interested enough to keep you in mind for future openings.

Call around to local business and inquire about night jobs, if you can't visit them in person. Ask to speak to the hiring manager or manager on duty. Let them know the type of work you are looking for and your availability. Thank them for taking the time to talk to you.

    • 5

Check job search websites to find night jobs. You can upload your resume to major sites such as Monster.com and CareerBuilder.com, and apply for jobs online.

    • 6

Dress to impress for an interview. When you visit business to fill out job applications, you may get an interview on the spot. Bring your resume and come prepared with questions and answers so they know you are the right person for the job.
