How to Get Labor Jobs

Unskilled labor jobs are easy to get if you're willing to do a little hard work. They require only reasonable physical fitness and a willingness to work. The trouble with getting a labor job is that just about anybody can do it, meaning you're often competing with many people for a slot in a low-paying job with little or no security.

Don't waste time with a resume. Most labor jobs don't require one. Many don't even require a formal application. Spend your time finding job leads instead.

    • 2

Visit temp agencies specializing in warehouse, construction and labor. These maintain a stable of temporary workers for labor assignments. Though some of these might ask for your resume, most will ask you to fill out a computer-based application with your basic information.

    • 3

Talk with construction, landscaping, cleanup and shipping companies. All of these industries need an extra pair of hands from time to time, and may be willing to take you on as extra help. If you know someone who works for the company, use your connection to see if you can get hired.

Post ads on internet classified sites, and in newspapers and real estate guides. Offer your services as a mover and heavy clean-up specialist.

    • 5

Cultivate contacts within every group you are a part of. Your church, kids' activity clubs, and even the grocery store and library are excellent sources for people who may need something heavy lifted someday. Put yourself out there so that people think of you when they need these services.
