How to Fix an Underwire Coming Out of a Bra
Nothing is worse than spending thirty or forty dollars on a bra only to find that the underwire pokes you under your arm. It is annoying and aggravating and it is usually the end of the bra, which often gets sent to the trash. But you don't have to trash the bra just yet! These bras can actually be repaired very cheaply and rather quickly too. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Upholstery thread
- Sewing needle
- Fleece
- Fabric glue
- Seam ripper
- Electrical or duct tape
- New underwire
Instructions

1
Determine whether or not the underwire is broken. If it is not broken, simply slide it back in place and make a few stitches with a needle and upholstery thread to close up the area where it broke through.
-
2
Eliminate poking underwires that are not broken by placing a small piece of fleece around each end of the underwire and using fabric glue to keep it in place. You may have to use a seam ripper to open up the bra ends and pull the wire out. After you fix the underwire, slide it back in and stitch the ends with upholstery thread.

3
Replace broken underwires with new ones that can be purchased at your local fabric store. Pull the old wire out, slide the new one in and stitch up the hole tightly with upholstery thread.
-
4
Wrap a bit of electrical or duct tape around the ends of the underwires so that you do not have to worry about the uncomfortable protrusion ever again. Do this before you make your final stitches.
-
5
Seal the ends of the underwire with a drop of fabric glue. Sometimes underwires can escape through the tiniest holes, but the fabric glue seals the area. It is washable and invisible.

Tips & Warnings
Always hand-wash and air-dry your bras to keep them in shape longer than machine washing allows.
