How to Remove the WLAN in a Sony VAIO

Just about every Sony VAIO laptop will come with some sort of WLAN or Wireless Local Area Network card built into the motherboard. While pressing a hot key or sliding a toggle on the laptop itself will disable the wireless functionality, sometimes you need to remove the whole application and replace it. Doing so is quick, easy and takes little time, but getting a replacement should be done through Sony to ensure compatibility.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the Vaio over so the lid is facing the ground.

    • 2

Unscrew all screws on the back of the computer and remove each panel one by one until you find a tiny WLAN card. It will be about 1-inch by 1-inch and will have two wires plugged into it.

    • 3

Remove each wire by firmly tugging each one.

    • 4

Slide the WLAN card out after the wires have been unplugged. It is very much like removing a tiny RAM stick.

Tips & Warnings
