Companies are realizing the power of Facebook and using it to reach people who already love their products and attract new fans. Create a Facebook account at Facebook.com. Fill out a small form and you are connected! You can fill out your profile or do it at a later time. Only share the information you are comfortable letting others see.

Using the search box on the upper right of the Facebook page, search for companies that you like. Let's use Oreos as an example. When Oreos comes back in your search page click the link to go to their Facebook page. In the top-center of their page you will see a button that says "Become a fan." Click the button and you will then receive updates from that company.

Take a minute to look around their Facebook page. Most companies will have several tabs across the top. One might say "Special Offers" or "Coupons" or "Deals." This is where you can get freebies and discounts. Sometimes the company will allow you to print a coupon directly from their Facebook page. Other times you will have to type in your email to get a coupon.

Follow a thrifty blog or twitter account. These bloggers will notify readers when a company is giving things away on Facebook. Two to try are MoneySavingMom.com and CouponCravings.com.
