How to Hide Cable DVD Wires

Cable DVD wires deliver the audio/video signals from a digital media disc to a monitor, such as a television or a home theater receiver connected to a TV. Home theater enthusiasts may want to eliminate clutter in their viewing rooms by hiding wires, especially if the flat-screen TV is wall-mounted. The answer to this dilemma is a fish tape, a flexible piece of coiled wire that can be pushed behind walls to install audio/video wiring out of sight.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the electricity at the circuit breaker to the room where the DVD cable wires will be hidden.

    • 2

Mark the wall with a pencil at the two points where the cable will enter and exit.

    • 3

Drill a 1/2-inch hole at each pencil mark.

    • 4

Push the end of the fish tape through the first hole and guide it gently toward the second.

    • 5

Pull the hook on the end of the fish tape through the second hole when it appears behind the wall.

    • 6

Loop the DVD cables through the hook on the fish tape and tie them to the hook with an overhand knot.

    • 7

Pull the fish tape slowly back through the wall toward the first hole.

    • 8

Remove the fish tape and untie the cables, leaving them to dangle outside the hole until ready to connect to an electronic component.

Tips & Warnings

  • Drill the hole for the cables to connect to a television in an area that will be concealed by the TV when it is mounted on the wall.

  • Do not close the circuit break to restore power to the room until all cables are installed and the fish tape has been removed from the wall.
