How to Make a Place Kicking Holder
Practicing field goal kicking requires a holder for the football. While timing and familiarity with the holder are important, one might not always be available to work with a kicker. In that absence, a holder can be constructed out of pvc pipe. While there are pre-made holders that are crafted out of more durable materials, they are more expensive and the amount of improvement they provide is debatable. Making one should be quick and rather easy.

- 1 12 to 18 inch straight PVC pipe
- 1 Tree Piece
- 3 90-degree PVC pieces
- 2 shorter straight PVC pipe

Making the stand

Attach the tree piece to one end of the 12 to 18 inch straight piece. A tree piece is a piece of pvc pipe that has three branches facing out in three different directions. All pieces should be able to screw into one another, but if you must have pieces cut to fit that no longer allow for this feature, super glue will seal the pipes together fine.

Connect two of the 90-degree angle pieces into the holes of the tree piece that are across from one another. 90-degree pieces will be rounded off to a 90-degree angle, appearing like a lower case 'r'. They should be in alignment with one another as they will be the anchor for the legs of the holder.

Connect the two shorter straight pieces into the remaining ends of the 90-degree pieces. These will be the legs for the stand.

Attach the third 90-degree angle piece to the other end of the 12 to 18 inch piece. Make sure the unused end is facing the ground. This will be the holder that supports the tip of the football.

Tips & Warnings
The height of the stand will depend on the person kicking. It should be at a height such that the arm of the stand angles upward, keeping enough pressure on the ball to hold it in place.
The size of the pipe can vary but should be around one inch. Using pipe that is too narrow will not provide a stable grip. Using pipe that is too wide will affect the flight of the football.
When using a holder, treat it like a game situation. Use the same routine and timing that you would use with a real person or during a game.
