How to Make Your Own Plastic Ruler Cuff Bracelet

Sometimes a common item you might find in a drawer can be the beginnings of a fun kid's craft project. If you have any flexible plastic rulers--the kind that are often found in back-to-school give-aways--you can convert them into cuff bracelets for a child. She can make them for herself and play dress-up or make them into gifts for her friends and family.

Things You'll Need

  • Flexible plastic ruler
  • Scissors
  • Paper packing tape
  • Craft supplies (e.g., paint, markers, stickers, craft gems)

Instructions

    • 1

Bend the plastic ruler around the child's arm and hold it in a loop. Adjust it until the child can move her hand in and out of it, without it being so big that it would just fall off. If the child is making the bracelet as a gift for an adult, use your wrist to measure it.

    • 2

Snip off the excess plastic with a pair of scissors, leaving a half an inch of overlap.

    • 3

Wrap wide paper packing tape around the overlapping area to hold the ruler cuff bracelet together. Then wrap paper packing tape around the entire ruler cuff bracelet to make a surface for decorating.

    • 4

Allow the child to decorate the ruler cuff bracelet with stickers, foam die cuts, craft gems, markers or craft paints.
