How to Add a Link to an Italian Bracelet

Italian bracelets consist of plain or personalized charms that can be added or removed to customize the jewelry's appearance. The charms are typically metal squares with hooks on both ends and a design on the face. An Italian charm bracelet may be purchased with plain links so that personalized charms can be added over time. You can use the hooks on the back side of the charms to open the bracelet for a new link.

Instructions

1. Decide where you want to place your new link. Unclasp the bracelet at that point by holding the two links you want to separate between the thumb and forefinger of both hands. Pull the links apart and gently separate the hook of one link from the bar of the other.

2. Hold one end of the charm bracelet between the thumb and forefinger. Hold the new link between the other thumb and forefinger. Press down and slide your thumbs toward each other to expose a hook and bar. One link will have an exposed hook while the other link will have an exposed bar.

3. Attach the links by placing the exposed hook onto the bar at a 45-degree angle. Release the links.

4. Hold one end of the bracelet in each hand between the thumb and forefinger. Place pressure on the charms to expose the hook and bar. Wrap the hook around the bar at a 45-degree angle to complete your new addition to your Italian bracelet.
