How to Get Mentally Ready for Air Force Boot Camp

Air Force Boot Camp, also known as Air Force Basic Military Training, is a six week training anyone entering the enlisted forces of the Air Force must go through. According to the Air Force website, boot camp is, "... an extremely challenging experience both physically and mentally." The Air Force recommends getting ready for the physical challenges by starting a workout program at home, prior to starting boot camp. The steps you can take to get ready physically for basic military training are easier to plan than the steps to get ready mentally, but you can do it.

Instructions

    • 1

Get your attitude on track. Having the right attitude will help you greatly in boot camp. For six weeks, you will listen and do exactly as your drill instructor says. Your drill instructor will most likely do everything they can to get a rise out of you. Questioning his or her authority or not cooperating will only make your experience in boot camp worse.

Read and study as much as you can about the Air Force. You can look at basic training websites or buy recruit guidebooks. These websites and books will help you know what to expect and therefore help you prepare better mentally. You will also have to memorize quite a bit in boot camp. It will help to memorize some of the following ahead of time: Air Force ranks, Air Force song, Air Force core values and Airmen's Creed.

    • 3

Prioritize your day, once you are there. There are number of tasks you have to do at boot camp. Get these done before you give in to temptation to do something that is not required and fall behind.

    • 4

Don't quit. Remind yourself that most of boot camp is mental. If you can convince yourself it is worth it, you will make it through physically. Also remember, boot camp is only temporary.

    • 5

Remember it is your drill instructor's job to make you a knowledgeable, hard-working airman who is ready to serve his or her country.
