How to Build a Hay Rack for Goats
Building a hay rack for goats has several advantages. It will enable them to eat their hay and will not allow them to scatter it, lay in it and create waste of their food. Hay racks are generally inside of a goat's shelter, barn or loafing stall where they eat each day. This protects their hay and food from getting wet in rainy weather and spoiling.

Cattle Panel Goat Hay Rack

1
Drive three T posts into the ground with a post driver at each end of a 16-foot cattle panel and one in the middle. There should be about a 2- to 3-foot space between the new cattle panel and the existing fence line. Choose an area that lines up with the cattle panel enclosure of your goats pen so that you have a fence line parallel to the existing fence.
-
2
Cut a 6-inch length of wire with wire cutters or a fencing tool and attach the bottom square of the cattle panel to each T post. Use a pair of pliers or a fencing tool to twist the wire around the pole and cattle panel so that it is secure. Continue attaching each post at the top square of cattle panel and at least at three more squares in between the top and bottom of each post.

Place hay inside the 2- to 3-foot area so that the goats can reach through the panels to eat their hay.

Tips & Warnings
Wire fencing clips for T posts can be useful in the place of a roll of wire. Attach the wire clips in the same areas on the T posts and cattle panel.
If there is not an existing fence line in your goat enclosure you can install a sheet of cattle panel 2 to 3 feet from a barn or enclosure wall in this same manner.
Secure the wire around the cattle panel with the tips of the twisted wire on the outside of the cattle panel so the goats do not cut or scratch themselves on the ends. The extra length of the wire can be turned away from the goats and downward, so that it does not scratch animals or people.
