How to Upgrade FrontPage 2003
FrontPage is a visual website editing and administration tool first released by Microsoft as version 1.1 in 1995. Microsoft updated the program in 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002 and for the last time in 2003. The company replaced FrontPage in late 2006 with the release of a new but similar program called Expression Web. Because the program represents a logical progression from FrontPage, upgrading a website designed or managed in FrontPage 2003 to Expression Web is a straightforward process.

1
Install Microsoft Expression Web. Insert the Expression Web disc into your computer. Click "Accept" on the first screen to accept the program's license agreement. Select "Yes" or "No" on the Customer Experience Improvement Program screen, then click "Next." Click "Install" on the following screen to begin installation. The process can take up to 10 minutes depending on the speed of your computer. Press "Finish" when the installation completes.

2
Back up your FrontPage files. Make a copy of the folder containing the files of your FrontPage 2003 website. Although most FrontPage sites work without issue in Expression Web, the program does not allow you to edit FrontPage navigation components (they still function properly) and does not support VML (Vector Markup Language) graphics. Having an archived copy of your FrontPage 2003 site affords you the opportunity to roll back if the Expression Web upgrade causes problems.

3
Open Expression Web. Launch the program by clicking the Windows "Start" button, then "Programs," "Microsoft Expression" and "Microsoft Expression Web."

4
Open your FrontPage 2003 website in Expression Web. Select "File" from the menu at the top of your screen, then click "Open." Locate your website files in the dialog box, double-clicking the icon of any file you want to edit.
