How to Make a Pretend Prosthetic Leg
A prosthetic leg is a kind of tool that is used to replace a missing limb. Artificial limbs can be caused by several reasons like accidents, medical conditions and congenital defects. The development of prosthetics has improved through the years. More durable materials are now being used such as carbon fibers, silicone & etc. A faux prosthetic leg is something that you make for fun or for demonstration purposes.
Things You'll Need
- Duct tape (about 3 to 4 rolls)
- 1 big bottle of wood glue
- 1/8 inch foam (if you can secure something thinner, which would be preferable)
- A broomstick or wood dowel
- Skin tone paint
- Scissors
- Gloves
- Old pair of pants
- Newspaper
- Razor blade

Get a friend to help you. Let him wear the old pants. Duct tape up a part of his leg and secure properly. Make sure the tape is tight and conforms to the shape of the limb. Apply less tape to pivot points like joint and knees to avoid sluggish blood circulation in the limbs. This should take about less than an hour.

Cut off the tape from the body with your razor blade. Make sure that you do this slowly and carefully to avoid slicing up the person.

Get a broomstick or any wooden dowel that you can use to set as the bone for your fake leg. Be sure to trim the opposite ends to make sure that no one gets hurt. Paint both ends of the wood with off white or white.

Begin adding wood glue to your newspapers. Rest the wood in the middle of the duct tape leg and start adding layers and layers of newspaper into it. The more newspaper is added, the more stable and secure your prosthesis is. Fill the stub with newspaper up to the brim. Allow it to dry afterwards for about an hour or two.

In making the skin, begin by taking a section of the foam and soak it in liquid latex. As your foam cures, pad it down until it becomes thin. This will now appear as your fake skin. You can color your fake skin patch with skin tone paint.

Secure the skin patch by gluing it in your fake prosthetic leg
