How to Fix Porcelain on Stove Tops

Porcelain on a stove does not fade or require normal refinishing like many surfaces, but it can be chipped if struck with a heavy or pointed object. Porcelain that is chipped must be fixed, because in time the damage can spread. You can fix a porcelain stove in the traditional way of sanding and repainting it, or you can just go to a hardware store and purchase a tube of touch-up glaze. Either way, it's a relatively quick project that will leave your stove looking practically brand new. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your stove and let it cool.

    • 2

Wet a cloth with a solution of warm water and dish detergent. Scrub the damaged area with the cloth to remove dirt and debris. Allow the area to dry.

    • 3

Sand the chipped porcelain with 220-grit sandpaper. Brush off the area with a soft brush. Rinse the area with clear water and dry it with a cloth or hairdryer.

    • 4

Cover the chipped area with an epoxy adhesive, or a touch-up glaze that matches the color of your stove. Mix and apply the epoxy as directed on the package. Shake up the bottle of touch-up glaze before applying it with a brush.

    • 5

Allow the epoxy adhesive or touch-up glaze to dry for 24 hours.

    • 6

Spray or brush porcelain paint over the area, if you applied epoxy adhesive. Touch-up glaze does not need a coat of paint.

Tips & Warnings

  • If a really big chip has come off your stove, try gluing it back in place and covering it with porcelain paint. Contact the manufacturer of your stove if you are having trouble getting the paint to match the color of your porcelain. The touch-up glaze works better for small areas.
