How to Put Maps Layer on Google Earth
Google Earth provides a variety of customized views for exploring the entire planet. Geography, location photos, satellite imagery and conventional maps are all possible extensions within any Google Earth scene. The road map layer offers similar functionality to that of the web-based version of Google's service, Google Maps. This layer highlights all the roads officially documented, and automatically customizes which roads display based on the current zoom setting. Using the road map layer is an effective way to learn driving directions and to see urban development.
Instructions

1
Launch the Google Earth program.
-
2
Navigate to a desired area by typing in the location's address in the "Fly To" field in the upper-left corner of the program window and pressing the "Enter" button. Alternately, use the navigation controls to the right side of the planet Earth to explore the globe and zoom in on a desired area.

-
3
Locate the "Layers" panel in the lower-left corner of the program window. This panel is displayed by default. However, it is possible that it has been turned off. If the word "Layers" appears at the very bottom of the program window with no additional features, click the arrow button to the left of the "Layers" heading to expand the panel. If no panels are visible, click the "Show Sidebar" button at the top of the program window.
-
4
Click the "Roads" check box in the "Layers" panel. A new display of conventional road map data will be added to the Google Earth view. This is a conventional map layer similar to online mapping websites such as Google Maps.
-
5
Zoom in on the map by double-clicking any area or using the zoom controls to the right of the map. As you zoom in and out of the map, different levels of road map detail will appear or disappear. Google Earth automatically controls which roads appear based on a zoom setting. To see all available roads, zoom in as far as possible on the map.

Tips & Warnings
Google Earth pulls location-specific data for the map display from the Internet based on the area you are viewing. Without an Internet connection, some or all data may not display. Always make sure your Internet connection is active when using Google Earth. Also be aware of long loading times when pulling fresh information on an area you have not viewed before.
