How to Make Classy Gift Jewelry Boxes

No carving, hammering, sanding or nailing is needed to make classy gift jewelry boxes. All you need to make a beautiful jewelry box is a pre-manufactured, unpainted wooden or papier-mache box, bead embellishments and a few craft supplies---all available from your local craft store. Design the jewelry box with glass beads in one color or many colors. Make this elegant jewelry box craft as a lovely gift for Mother's Day, birthdays or any special occasion.

Instructions

    • 1

Run a thin line of hot glue on the top corner of the jewelry box. Because hot glue hardens quickly, only run about a two-inch line at a time.

    • 2

Pick up a glass bead with your tweezers. Place one glass bead at a time on the glue line. Gently press each bead into the hot glue.

    • 3

Continue covering the box with small lines of hot glue and beads until the entire box is covered with glass beads. Allow the glue to harden completely.

    • 4

Mix epoxy resin according to manufacturer's instructions. Dip a tapered round paint brush into the epoxy resin.

    • 5

Paint the entire surface of the beaded box with resin, taking care to push the resin down in between the beads. Allow the resin to harden completely.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use four painted 1-inch wood beads to make "legs" for the jewelry box craft. Hot glue the wood beads to the bottom of the jewelry box at the four corners.

  • Paint the inside of the box with acrylic craft paint. Alternatively, line the box with matching craft felt or satiny fabric (using spray adhesive to attach).

  • Toss out any left over epoxy resin. According to the Arty Crafter's online topic, "Tips and Techniques Using Resin," epoxy resin will not keep for future use.

  • Guard yourself from inhaling fumes from epoxy resin. The Arty Crafter website recommends working with epoxy resin in a well-ventilated area and for short periods of time. You might also wish to wear a fitted mask.
