Create your party food menu. Choose items that are easy to prepare ahead of time that can be quickly reheated, set out or cooked without a lot of fuss. Dishes like casseroles that can be put in the oven and then served when ready, fruit and vegetable platters and individual sweet treats such as petit fours work well.

Gather your recipes and reviews the ingredients you need. Make a grocery list and go shopping. Get all your supplies.

    • 3

Create a game plan based on what needs to be cooked, how long, the temperatures and what can just be set out. Figure out your timing so you know what dish to prepare when and know exactly what you'll do when.

    • 4

The night before, put together your "ready to cook" dishes such as casseroles that you can prepare and cook later. Also cut up all your vegetables and fruit. Put these in dishes and cover with plastic wrap or foil. Make any desserts or pastries you plan on serving. As long as they don't require refrigeration, put these items on plates and cover with foil.

The day of the party, set out all your dishes and get the rest of your party items such as buffet tables, decorations and table settings ready. Put your hot dishes in the oven to cook and set out your other items.
