Buying an entire container of buttermilk because a recipe requires a little of it can leave you with a lot of waste. Instead, you can easily make the right amount of simple buttermilk at home. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 1 cup whole or 2 percent milk

Instructions

      Pour the milk into a large glass or other container. Two percent is OK to use, but whole milk curdles easier and makes better buttermilk.

      Cut the lemon in half. Squeeze the juice out of half of it into the milk. Stir the milk once.

      Let the milk react with the lemon juice for 15 minutes. The acidity in the lemon will curdle the milk.
