How to Wear a Wing-Tipped Tuxedo Shirt
Add subtle nuance to your tuxedo by donning a shirt with a wing-tipped collar rather than the traditional lay-down collar. Wing-tipped collars are upraised to expose the band of the bow tie, with only the tips folded down to create precise, triangle-shaped wing tips. You can wear wing-tipped tuxedo shirts for black-tie or white-tie affairs. The traditional color of a wing-tipped shirt is white; however black and other colors are also available, as are wing-tipped shirts with pleated or ruffled bibs. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Put on your pants first. Wear non-pleated, flat-front pants with a wing-tipped shirt. The pants should not have cuffs.
-
2
Put on the wing-tipped shirt. Tuck it in and button it all the way using button studs. Connect the wrist cuffs with cuff links (most wing-tipped shirts have French cuffs).

3
Put on a cummerbund or suspenders, or a combination of both. Do not wear a belt with a tuxedo.
-
4
Put on a basic bow tie. Use a bow tie that matches the cummerbund. Position the ends of the bow in front of the wing tips. This will secure the bow tie in proper position.
-
5
Put on either a shawl-collar jacket or a notched-lapel jacket to complement the wing-tipped shirt. A peaked-lapel jacket has two large points at either side and, combined with the points already present on the wing collar, can be a bit much.

Tips & Warnings
Wing-tipped shirts frame the head in a way that does not work for all head shapes. Avoid wearing a wing-tipped shirt if you have a thicker neck or a round face, as the collar will over-emphasize these characteristics.
