Jambalaya is a one-pot dish typically cooked in cast-iron jambalaya pots or Dutch ovens. if you've got neither, you can prepare the popular spicy dish using a rice cooker. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cups long-grain white rice
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup parsley, chopped
  • 1 cup cooked chicken, diced
  • 1 cup baked ham, diced
  • 1 cup Polish sausage, sliced
  • Rice cooker
  • Nonstick rice spatula

Instructions

      Put the broth, chili, thyme, bay leaf and olive oil in a bowl. Mix well and set aside.

      Wash the rice in a bowl with cold water. Drain and repeat two or three times. Set aside.

      Put the rice, bell pepper, onion, parsley, chicken, ham and sausage in the inner cooking pan of the rice cooker and mix well. Add the broth mixture and stir well.

      Place the inner cooking pan in the main body of the rice cooker, plug in the unit and press the cooking switch to start.

      Open the lid when the rice is cooked and carefully mix all of the ingredients together using the spatula. Close the lid and let it sit for 10 minutes.
