How to Turn the Temperature Down on a Hot Water Boiler
Water boilers are designed to maintain your hot water at a consistent temperature using a thermostat to send a signal to the heating element of your boiler and heating the water back to the desired temperature when it falls below the temperature setting. The thermostat for your water boiler can be found either mounted on a wall in your home for easy access or directly on your boiler depending on the type of unit your have in your home. Turn the hot water faucet on in your kitchen sink and run the water until it is at its hottest. Then fill a drinking glass half full with the water and turn the faucet off.

Place a cooking thermometer in the glass and let it sit for a couple minutes until you can read how hot the water temperature is. Remove the thermometer from the glass and pour the water into the sink.

Locate the thermostat control for your hot water boiler and observe where the temperature is set. The thermostat will look like a dial on the side of the boiler or on a wall in your home with the temperature in degrees printed on the dial.

Turn the thermostat down to the desired temperature, remembering not to go below the recommended minimum temperature of 130 degrees F.

Allow the water temperature to adjust for approximately 30 minutes and retest the temperature by repeating steps 1 and 2 to confirm that you have the desired results.

Tips & Warnings
The water temperature at your kitchen faucet should read at least 120 degrees F, or 130 degrees F minimum at the water boiler's thermostat, in order to prevent bacteria and disease.
Be careful not to set your water temperature too high in order to avoid being scalded by the water.
