How to Find Listings for HUD Homes

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) owns homes that had Federal Housing Administration-insured mortgages but were subject to foreclosure. These homes are often listed substantially lower than their assessed values, as HUD wants only to recover the costs associated with the foreclosure. A HUD home can be bought by almost anyone with first priority being given to owner-occupant purchasers. While a HUD home may be sold only through a real estate broker registered with HUD, anyone can search for and view available HUD homes.
