How to Make Pull Tab Books

Many children love books and they especially love it when adults read to them. What makes this time even more special is if the book has some sort of activity within it, such as pop-up books, lift the flap books, and pull tab books. Unfortunately, these types of books are usually much more expensive. However, it is rather simple to make an inexpensive pull tab book. The best part about making a pull tab book from home is that it's easy to personalize it and make it about almost any topic. With a few common craft supplies, anyone can make a pull tab book that will keep children entertained for days.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold a piece of 8 by 11 1/2 inch card-stock in half, bringing the 8 inch edges together. Make sure to form a straight crease on the fold.

    • 2

Cut a small rectangle (about 1 inch long and 1/4 inch wide) out of the middle of the fold of the paper.

    • 3

With the fold of the paper facing towards the right, cut a small slit (about 2 inches) in the middle of the top layer of the paper, making sure to line the slit up with the rectangle cut-out in the fold.

    • 4

Cut out of another piece of card-stock whatever shape you want to appear on the page (making the shape about 2 inches wide).

    • 5

Cut out a rectangular piece of card-stock that is 4 inches long and 1 inch wide. Glue this rectangle to the right side of the shape from step 4.

    • 6

Insert the rectangular side of the piece of paper from steps 4 and 5 into the slit in the top layer of paper, allowing the the rectangle pull all the way through to the right until it comes out through the hole in the middle of the fold of the paper.

    • 7

Glue the edges opposite and perpendicular to the fold of the paper together, refraining from gluing the pull tab.

    • 8

Repeat steps 1 through 7 for all pages of the book. Glue the pages together along the sides opposite the folds.

    • 9

For the cover, fold a piece of card-stock in half and glue it over the pages along the fold.
