How to Find Public Knowledge Court Information on a Person
One of the things that makes the American court system special is that very few things are kept hidden from the public. If information is out there, there's a good chance you can find it if you know where to look. But knowing where to look can get tricky if you don't know where to start.

1
Determine the level of government with which you are dealing. Federal, state, and municipal courts handle separate cases. Use any information you have on the person to determine at what level you are looking.
-
2
Find the specific court you need by searching the U.S. Courts website. This can lead you to more specific courts, such as a bankruptcy court in a certain city.
-
-
3
Visit the court and ask where you can obtain public knowledge court information. You usually need to be there, with proof of your own identity, before they will give you any information.
-
4
Ask questions. If the court you visit doesn't have the information you need, ask them if they have any information in their database that would lead you to where you might find your needed information.
-
5
Get a background check on the person, using a website such as U.S. Search. If your court visit was unsuccessful, and all you have is a person's name, you may need more information. An online background check could be your best option as it can provide additional information including current and past addresses. However, this service charges a fee.
